Endowments

The Children’s Literacy Endowment

In 2014, the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Literacy Foundation established an endowment for Children’s Literacy. The Foundation will continue to increase the principal of this endowment in support of Children’s Literacy activities. As of June 30, 2023, the endowment is valued at $980,833, not including current pledges, and has made $130,000 in distributions. This endowment makes an annual distribution to children’s literacy initiatives, specifically summer reading programming, in the Sacramento Region.

The Lawrence Family Endowment for Sustainability

In 2017, the Board of Directors established an endowment for Foundation operations with achieved savings. Fundraising experts recommend that nonprofit organizations have 25% of their operations covered by endowment interest distributions by 2025. In 2022, Nancy Lawrence bequeathed a $1,000,000 gift that will be put into the operations endowment as it is achieved. In honor of Nancy and the Lawrence Family we have named the endowment the Lawrence Family Endowment for Sustainability. The Foundation receives unrestricted bequests from time to time and directs portions of those gifts to endowments. As of June 30, 2023, the endowment is valued at $351,004 and no distributions have been made. This endowment will make an annual contribution toward the Foundation’s Operations.

The ( your Name ) ( your direction ) Endowment

To initiate your donor-directed endowment for the benefit of a literacy nonprofit organization or a long-term literacy-focused initiative, a minimum threshold of $25,000 must be achieved. Your named endowment will make an annual contribution according to your direction.

Thank you in advance for considering the Foundation as a steward of your legacy gifts. For further information, contact april@sacramentoliteracy.org or call 916-836-3540.
